For the Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups cherry pie filling
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Beat the egg and mix it into the flour mixture until a dough forms. Press half of the dough into the prepared pan.
- Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust. Sprinkle the remaining dough over the top in crumbles.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let cool before cutting into bars.
