  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, frying in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters. Serve immediately.

Notes

Make sure the oil is at the correct temperature to avoid greasy fritters. Use a thermometer if possible. You can prepare the batter ahead and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.
