1 cupwhite chocolate chips – Adds the creamy base.
½ teaspoonorange flavor extract – For that zesty, refreshing taste.
3drops orange food coloring – Optional, for a beautiful orange hue.
½ cupbutter – Adds richness and helps bind the ingredients.
3 tablespoonsheavy whipping cream – For a smooth texture.
¼ cuppowdered sugar – For that finishing dusted sweetness.
Instructions
In a medium, heat-safe bowl, start by combining the white chocolate chips along with the orange flavor extract and any optional orange food coloring you want to add. This mixture will be the base of your truffles, providing the creamy and sweet essence of each bite. Set this bowl aside as you prepare the other ingredients.
Next up, grab a medium saucepan and melt the butter over low heat. Once the butter is melted, gradually increase the heat to medium and begin to whisk in the heavy whipping cream. Keep an eye on this mixture, and whisk continuously until it starts to gently simmer.
Now comes the fun part! Carefully pour the heated butter and cream mixture over the bowl containing your chocolate chips and orange extract. As you pour, whisk the mixture together until you achieve a smooth and creamy ganache consistency.
Once your ganache is smoothly mixed, cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for about an hour. This chilling step is necessary to let the ganache firm up, making it easier to scoop and roll into ball shapes.
After the mixture has chilled and firmed, retrieve it from the refrigerator. Using a cookie scoop, portion out small amounts of the ganache – about a tablespoon each – and roll them between your hands to create round balls.
Finally, place all rolled truffles back in the refrigerator for another hour.
Notes
These truffles can last in the refrigerator for up to two weeks if stored in an airtight container.
