  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Icing: 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Food coloring as desired

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking soda.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses and egg.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Cut out wreath shapes using a cookie cutter and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are firm. Let cool completely.
  8. For the icing: Mix powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add food coloring if desired.
  9. Decorate the cooled cookies with icing to add festive details.
