For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup strong black coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips, melted

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  5. Fold in the melted dark chocolate chips until fully incorporated.
  6. Divide batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
