Popeyes Cajun Rice Copycat

  • 2 cups long grain rice
  • 450 grams ground beef
  • optional: 225 grams chicken gizzards, finely chopped
  • 120 grams diced green bell pepper
  • 120 grams diced onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Creole or Cajun seasoning
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon celery seed
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 950 milliliters beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, bell pepper, and onion until the meat is well browned and vegetables are tender.
  2. Stir in garlic powder, Creole or Cajun seasoning, cayenne pepper, celery seed, and black pepper until the mixture is evenly coated.
  3. Pour in beef broth and bring the contents to a boil. Stir in the long grain rice.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and liquid is absorbed. Fluff with a fork, taste, and adjust seasoning as desired before serving.

Notes

Opt for a blend of ground beef and finely chopped gizzards to achieve the authentic Cajun-style texture.
