The Ultimate Sweet Potato Gratin Wreath

A festive and elegant holiday dish featuring sweet potato slices arranged in a wreath shape, topped with a creamy gratin sauce, perfect for special occasions like Christmas or Thanksgiving.

  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a ring-shaped mold or bundt pan for the wreath shape.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper until simmering; remove from heat.
  4. Layer the sweet potato slices in the mold, overlapping slightly to form a wreath.
  5. Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Uncover, sprinkle with Gruyère cheese and breadcrumbs, and drizzle with melted butter.
  8. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly, then invert onto a serving platter.

Notes

This dish can be prepared ahead and reheated. For a gluten-free version, substitute regular breadcrumbs with gluten-free ones.
